In a move to curb malpractices and increase transparency, several universities across India have started live-streaming practical exams on YouTube. This initiative aims to deter students from engaging in unfair practices and allows for greater scrutiny of the examination process.
Here are some universities that have implemented live-streaming of practical exams:
All 549 colleges affiliated with the University of Lucknow will now be required to live-stream their practical and viva voce examinations scheduled to begin December 12 on YouTube . This decision was taken to ensure fairness and transparency in the examination process.
Prof Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) State University (PRSU): All colleges affiliated with PRSU have been directed to create their own YouTube channels and live-stream practical exams. This move was taken to ensure that students receive fair and unbiased evaluations.
As the ambit of the Lucknow university has now expanded to five districts of Lucknow, Hardoi, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Rae Bareli, it was imperative to put in place an effective monitoring system, the university said.
“Many a time we hear that some colleges do not follow the protocols put in place for practical and viva voce examinations. With the help of technology, all such malpractices will get curtailed to a large extent. Sometimes, we hear that colleges try to take the help of internal examiners to help their students get good marks,” said vice-chancellor Prof AK Rai.
Benefits of live-streaming practical exams:

Tripathi, in his letter to the colleges, said, “Colleges are required to upload micro videos (about 30 seconds long and showing students and examiners) and four photographs of all the examinations on the university portal; marks are to be uploaded on the date of examination itself…”
“The college will also upload the details of internal examiners along with the desired information on the portal. At colleges where internal examiners are not available, the examination will be conducted after obtaining the consent of two external examiners,” the letter read.
Challenges of live-streaming practical exams:

Colleges were informed that the university would provide the names of examiners. Examiners would receive messages and had 48 hours to agree or disagree.
If the first examiner didn’t agree within 48 hours, it was considered disagreement, and the second examiner would be notified. If no examiner agreed, the college could request a new one from the controller.
