The Karnataka Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Recruitment Examination 2023 has been postponed indefinitely. The Karnataka High Court, on November 10, 2023, upheld the state government’s decision to cancel the examination, which was originally scheduled for October 3, 2023, following allegations of malpractice.
Amid calls to delay the police sub-inspector recruitment exam, Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced a one-month postponement, shifting it from December 23 to January 23, 2024.
This decision came after BJP member Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and other members urged for more preparation time, following the cancellation of an earlier psi examination due to alleged irregularities.
The Karnataka Examination Authority is re-conducting the psi exam for 545 police sub-inspector positions after the High Court upheld the cancellation. Initially hesitant, Mr. Parameshwara consulted with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before agreeing to the delay, citing the challenge of 1,500 vacant sub-inspector posts affecting police stations’ functioning.
Many police stations are now being managed by assistant sub-inspectors., and postponement would lead to delay.
Despite concerns about delays caused by postponement, the government plans to recruit 400 more sub-inspectors after filling the current 545 positions.
